Messi in May also broke Cristiano Ronaldo's record as the top scorer in Europe's top five leagues.

However, Messi revealed that his achievements have never been more important than those achieved with the Argentina national team or his club.

"I achieved the most important goal I had which was to win the World Cup with my national team and that was something incredible, the way everything happened," he said.

"I never thought about individual awards and I never considered them more important than team achievements," Messi said.

His series of achievements, both with the national team and club and individually recognized Messi as the end of an extraordinary career.

"To achieve the goal with the Argentine national team and achieve everything at the individual level, at the team level, for me, it closes an incredible career," Messi said.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi will undergo a new phase in his career by defending the United States Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Inter Miami.

He is scheduled to make his League Cup debut against Mexican side Cruz Azul at DRV PNK Stadium on 21 July 2023.
