One Piece's Gear 5 Luffy Starts Airing

Gear 5 or called Fifth Gear is a form of awakening from the Gomu Gomu no Mi devil fruit eaten by Monkey D Luffy.
Gear 5 can improve Luffy's body
The power was activated after Luffy was on the verge of collapse, namely in the middle of his fight against Kaidou. Gear 5 can enhance Luffy's already supple body, giving him increased strength, flexibility, and freedom during combat.
In addition, Gear 5 also allows Luffy to manipulate and change the surrounding environment, similar to Paramecia-type Devil Fruit awakening. By using Gear 5, Luffy can gain extraordinary strength, speed, and endurance beyond the abilities of Zoan users who have not awakened during his fight with Kaidou.
The elasticity of Gear 5 allows Luffy to stretch his rubber body to a greater extent, soft and able to withstand powerful attacks.

Luffy can pump his legs so fast that he can also run while in the air and leave a trail of fire due to the intense friction generated.
He can also use techniques from his previous Gear form without the need to force air into his body first. However, using Gear 5 consumes a lot of energy and makes Luffy look old and tired as he returns to his normal state.
In addition to power-ups, Gear 5 wakes Luffy's heartbeat to the rhythm of music known as Drums of Liberation. His appearance also changed. It can be seen that Luffy's hair and clothes are whitened with glowing eyes.
The Gear 5 featured several expanded techniques, including Gomu Gomu no Fusen, Gomu Gomu no Gigant, Gomu Gomu no Bajrang Gun, Gomu Gomu no Mogura Pistol, Gomu Gomu no Dawn Whip, and Gomu Gomu no Dawn Rocket.
In the original One Piece manga series, Gear 5 made its teaser debut on the last page of chapter 1043 and was fully revealed in chapter 1044 which was released in March 2022. This particular chapter is contained in Volume 103 of the One Piece manga series launching in August 2022 in Japan and July 2023 internationally.
The concept of Gear 5 is reportedly inspired by cartoon effects with mangaka Eiichiro Oda drawing insights from the iconic Tom and Jerry series. In a 2022 interview with Weekly Shonen Jump, Oda revealed Gear 5 is too much when it comes to cartoons and its silliness because he wants to create a polarity between Luffy's humor and Kaidou's seriousness.
