The Brazilian man died at 127 years old, exactly a week before his 128th birthday. The family said Gomes died of organ failure. A possible trigger is old age.
Jose Paulino Gomes Married in 1917 and Has Gone Through 3 Pandemics
According to a 1917 marriage certificate from Pedra Bonita's civil registry office, Gomes was born on August 4, 1895. It has gone through at least World War and three global pandemics.
Gomes used to work as an animal tamer. He had a habit of riding horses until four years ago.
"He is very simple, very humble. The uniqueness is that he doesn't like anything industrialized," said Gomes' granddaughter, Ferreira, quoted from the New York Post, Monday (08/07/2023).

"Just things from the countryside, natural. He raises chickens, as well as pigs. The food is all from here, it must be grown or raised here. And he always likes to drink a little bit," Ferreira said.
Gomes is survived by seven children, 25 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren.
Willyan Jose Rodrigues de Souza, legal counsel for the civil registry, confirmed to a local outlet that Gomes' age was accurate and said he was born before 1900. However, his family is unsure of his age, citing previous cases of incorrect document recording.
"There was a woman nearby who was 98 years old. She said she knew him when she was a child. That's when we became curious to confirm his age and searched the registry office to find out what was true," Gomes' granddaughter, Eliane Ferreira, told local media.
"He must be over 100 years old, at least 110 years old. Now we need to know how it will be recorded on the death certificate."
