The hosts tried to take control of the game by making short passes in their area.
Instead of threatening Manchester United first, Burnley almost conceded in the seventh minute. Bruno Fernandes fired in from close range, but goalkeeper James Traffod was able to deny the ball.
Burnley came close to scoring in the 10th minute. Connor Roberts' cross was met by Zeki Amdouni's header, but Andre Onana managed to deny the ball.

Luck had not overshadowed Burnley in the 17th minute. Amdouni's shot ball from close range still hit Manchester United's goal post.
Manchester United had scored through Jonny Evans in the 25th minute who grabbed a corner pass with a header. The goal was disallowed after a VAR review because Rasmus Hojlund was offside, interfering with the goalkeeper's movement.
Manchester United finally scored in first-half injury time. Evans' rebound pass into the Burnley penalty area was met with Fernandes' volley. The 1-0 score lasted until halftime.
Manchester United immediately tried to press at the beginning of the second half. There was one chance that failed to become a goal as Hojlund snatched a cross late flat.
Hojlund again failed to score in the 58th minute. He was late to grab Marcus Rashford's header in the box so that it was swept away by a Burnley defender.
Burnley made Manchester United difficult in the second half. Vincent Kompany's team often managed to flow the ball into the penalty area, but Manchester United's defense line was still swift to sweep.
Manchester United counterattacked in the 84th minute. Rashford successfully dribbled into the Burnley penalty area and fired a shot, but it was blocked.
There were no goals throughout the second half. Manchester United also returned home with a 1-0 victory over Burnley.
