The U.S. managed to chase 103-106 until the final three minutes but in the end, could not get past the Blue Continent country's resistance.

This is the second time in a row that Team USA has failed to advance to the Basketball World Cup finals after they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2019 tournament.

For Germany, the match will not only be their first win over the United States in nine meetings since the Dream Team era (1992) but will also be the first time the German national team has qualified for the FIBA World Cup final.

Despite producing stars such as Detlef Schrempf and Dirk Nowitzki, the German national basketball team has struggled to find consistency in the world arena.

They have only qualified for the Olympics once in the Nowitzki era, at Beijing 2008, and never reached the semi-finals.

Germany will now face Serbia in the FIBA World Cup 2023 final on Sunday (10/9/2023). Meanwhile, the U.S. will face Canada in the third-place match on the same day.

Germany, Serbia, the USA, and Canada secured their places at the 2024 Paris Olympics by successfully qualifying for the semifinals of this FIBA World Cup.
