The Argentine national team defeated its eternal rival Brazil at home, with the result of the match, "Brazil Vs Argentina: 0-1".
The South American Zone 2026 World Cup Qualifying match at Estadio Maracana, on Tuesday (11/21/2023), was postponed after the national anthem was played. Because there was a commotion in the stands involving both supporters and security officers.

Lionel Messi invited his colleagues in the Argentina national team not to continue the match until the situation was conducive. Messi does not like to see Argentina fans mistreated by security personnel.

The best chance of the first half was created by Gabriel Martinelli in the 44th minute. Martinelli volleyed into the box and briefly hit an opposing player before the ball rolled narrowly down the side of the goal.
It was the only shot on goal throughout the first half with 22 fouls. The 0-0 score sent both teams into the locker room.
Entering in the second half, both teams still had difficulty creating opportunities to score. Brazil could only threaten Argentina's goal in the 52nd minute when Rodrygo escaped Marcos Acuna's control on the right.
Rodrygo from a tight angle tried to beat Martinez, but the ball was blocked by the Argentine goalkeeper.
Brazil got another chance to score in the 57th minute. Jesus snatched the ball from the left side and stabbed it into the penalty area past several players.
Jesus then fell and a wild ball was struck by Martinelli which Martinez was able to block.
Argentina, who were more pressed, took the lead in the 61st minute through Nicolas Otamendi. From Giovani Lo Celso, the ball went into the box and Otamendi got ahead of Gabriel Magalhaes, heading the ball down the right flank out of reach of Alisson.
Brazil's attempts to equalize the score always failed because Argentina's defense was so solid and difficult to penetrate. The burden increased after they had to play with 10 men in the last 10 minutes of the game.
This followed a red card to Joelinton who slapped De Paul in the face in a duel for the ball. Until the end of the Brazil vs Argentina match, no goals were scored.
The additional three points confirmed Argentina's position at the top of the CONMEBOL Zone 2026 World Cup Qualifiers standings with 15 points, two points ahead of Uruguay in second place.
With these three straight defeats, Brazil was catapulted into sixth place with seven points, one point behind Venezuela in fourth.
