Playing at the Olimpico, on November 17, 2023, Italy opened the lead in the 17th minute. Matteo Darmian finished off Giacomo Raspadori's cross with a header to beat visiting goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.

Italy was awarded a penalty in the 41st minute after Nikola Serafimov was ruled handball in the box, and this decision was reinforced by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). But Jorginho's execution was repelled by Dimitrievski.
But the pleasure of North Macedonia did not last long. Italy, who picked up wild balls, rebuilt the attack and Federico Chiesa doubled the score with a long-range shot shortly after.

After the break, North Macedonia was able to rise. Jani Atanasov broke Gianluigi Donnarumma's goal with a header in the 52nd minute after taking advantage of a corner situation. The 24-year-old midfielder added another goal in the 74th minute.
His long-range shot hit Francesco Acerbi before moving into the left corner of the Italy goal, outwitting Donnarumma who had already moved to the right first. The score became 2-3. The pressure is growing for Italy.
But they managed to add another goal to 4-2 after Raspadori scored in the 81st minute. Receiving Nicolo Barella's through pass, the Napoli striker dribbled for a while and then fired a left-footed shot to break Dimitrievski.
Stephan El Shaarawy closed the match with a score of 5-2 in second-half injury time. The Egyptian received Federico Dimarco's pull pass, then fired a flat shot into the right corner of the North Macedonia goal.
This result moved Italy up to second place in Group C with 13 points from 7 matches, ahead of Ukraine who have the same points. The two teams will meet next week to determine who qualifies directly for Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, North Macedonia is fourth with 7 points from 7 games and is already confirmed to miss the tournament in Germany next year.
