Zelda has long been one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises, starting with the original game released in 1986. Rumors about a Zelda movie have been circulating for years, especially after the release of recent blockbuster games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but nothing came to fruition.
In 2015, Netflix was reported to be developing a live-action TV series Zelda, but that too never materialized.
Now Nintendo has officially announced the plans, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad serving as producers. Miyamoto wrote on social media that he and Arad had been working on a live-action film project 'for years', explaining that Nintendo was involved quite a lot in its production.
"It will take (a long) time to complete, but I hope you look forward to seeing it," he said in their official statement.
