Garnacho dropped from the Argentina national team

Alejandro Garnacho was dropped from the Argentina national team, this makes him not called up for the Argentina national team in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers CONMEBOL zone against Uruguay and Brazil this month. Coach Lionel Scaloni explained why.

Garnacho only made his Argentina debut in June and has made three appearances so far, all from the bench. Even so, it faces fierce competition.

Garnacho's Minimal Role During 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Is the Cause

Scaloni still relies on the players who contributed to Argentina winning the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 World Cup. The result is also satisfactory because the Albiceleste has won four victories during the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Garnacho's role was minimal in the four victories. He only played once, it came in the 85th minute when he was 3-0 up against Bolivia in September. He only sat on the bench against Paraguay and Peru last month.

Reflecting on this, Scaloni also decided to temporarily remove Garnacho. Even so, he insists the Manchester United winger is still on his radar, especially since he is still 19 years old. But for now, he should be rested.

"This decision is purely because of football. We don't like to call players but don't take them down. Everyone wants to play for the national team, that's good, but the human side also plays a role and you have to make decisions," Scaloni said, quoted by TyC Sports.

"It's easy to call him, but in the last call-up he didn't play and there were times when decisions had to be made. He is still young and on our radar, and will continue to be so. He's got a bright future," Scaloni explained.
