Francesco Bagnaia is top of the 2022 MotoGP standings with 437 points. Bagnaia is 21 points clear of second-placed Jorge Martin. Bagnaia could have sealed the 2023 MotoGP title early had he won the sprint race and Martin finished outside the top three.
Bagnaia does have the upper hand in this weekend's 2023 Valencia MotoGP. But competition is not just a matter of counting but being completed on the track.
Martin still has a chance to become a world champion. He can snatch if he finishes in 1st position in the sprint race, while Bagnaia is in 7th position. Later in the main race, Martin at least finished 4th and Bagnaia outside the top 10.
Speaking of Valencia MotoGP, there is not a dominant team on this circuit. Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati riders often alternate champions at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.
Last year, Suzuki also won in the Valencia MotoGP through Alex Rins. But Suzuki this season is no longer participating in the MotoGP event. Alex Rins will go down with Honda.
In addition to Bagnaia and Jorge Martin's rivalry, the 2023 Valencia MotoGP will also present the Repsol Honda team's farewell moment with Marc Marquez, who has announced that he will part ways when the 2023 MotoGP ends.
