Houston Rapper Big Pokey Dies
Sad news came from Houston, "Houston rapper Big Pokey Dies". The Houston rapper collapsed during an appearance Saturday night in Beaumont, videos circulating on social media showed, and died Sunday, according to a statement from his publicist.
Big Pokey, named Milton Powell, performed during a Juneteenth-themed show at Bar Pour09. The video shows Powell, who is in his mid-40s, holding a microphone in his hand as he suddenly appears to faint or unconscious, falls backward, and lands on his back. It also showed people rushing to him to offer help.
Pour09 Maine Day owners said Beaumont police were at the scene and were able to provide "immediate" assistance before emergency responders transferred Powell to a local hospital.

Powell's publicist confirmed that he died sometime Sunday. In a statement, he asked people to respect the privacy of Powell's family at this time and information about the celebration of Powell's life and how the public can honor it will be shared later.
Big Pokey Is Much Loved
"He was loved by his family, friends, and loyal fans," the statement read. "Big Pokey will forever be the hardest hole in the trash'!" The statement continued, referring to Powell's debut album.
Powell was a member of the chaotic clique of Houston's legendary rapper group associated with Houston rap legend DJ School.

Artists posted their condolences publicly following Powell's death.
"I'm not ready for that. One of the most talented artists in the city. A humble and unassuming man who moves with honor and respect," fellow rapper Bun B wrote on Instagram.
"He just went downstairs and did what he had to do and went home. The pillar of our city. If the Heart of Gold is a person. Dear members of the SUC. There will be nothing else and there won't be too much to miss. We love and respect you, sir. Rest in heaven," he continued.
