Luis Suarez, a former Barcelona and Inter Milan employee in the 1960s, breathed his last on Sunday (07/09/2023). He died at the age of 88.

The news made the football world mourn. Many major European clubs expressed their condolences for Suarez's departure

"Farewell to a great rival. Our condolences to Luis Suárez's family, friends, and fans," wrote AC Milan, who once faced the legend.

"Real Madrid C.F., its President, and Board of Directors would like to express deep sadness at the passing of Luis Suárez, one of the greatest legends of Spanish and world football, and the first and only Spanish player to win the Ballon d'Or in 1960," Real Madrid wrote on its official website.

The man whose real name is Luis Suarez Miramontes is indeed a big figure in football. He is the only Ballon d'Or winner from Spain to date.

Luis Suarez also won many titles with Barcelona and Inter Milan. Among them, he won two La Liga titles at the Blaugrana, as well as three Scudetto titles and two Champions League titles at Inter.

At a national team level, Luis Suarez was part of the 1964 European Cup winning squad. It was La Furia Roja's last title, before winning again in 2008. In total, Suarez has a record of 32 caps and made 14 goals.

After retiring, Luis Suarez also briefly became a coach. He coached Spain and Inter Milan until the 1990s before completely retiring.
