A crowd of 17,500 packed Thomas & Mack Arena to watch the 19-year-old Frenchman seen as the NBA's biggest star after LeBron James.
Wembanyama's Outstanding Debut
Wembanyama won a tip-off and provided an assist in Spurs' first attack but then missed his first three shots -- a shot from the baseline, a three-pointer, and a lay-up.

He finally scored his first point for the Spurs in the first quarter after firing a shot fouled by an opposing player. Wembanyama then hit a free shot to complete the three-point play.
Already well-known in the French league, Wembanyama was seen as unopposed when Spurs won the draft draw in May.
The Summer League offers Wembanyama's first experience as a Spurs player but his schedule is sure to be packed with preseason games and the NBA regular season starting next October.
