Tottenham briefly went ahead through Cristian Romero's goal before Brentford turned in the lead through goals from Bryan Mbuemo and Yoann Wissa. Emerson Royal drew the score level towards the end of the first half.

Tottenham played their first game without Harry Kane and relied on Son Heung-min, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski in attack.

Tottenham were able to open the lead when the game went 11 minutes. James Maddison's free-kick from the left side went to the front of the goal which Romero managed to head into Mark Flekken's goal. The score became 1-0.

Unfortunately, after scoring a goal, Romero was immediately pulled out because his head collided with an opposing player.

Brentford then leveled the score at 1-1 in the 23rd minute with a penalty kick after Mathias Jensen was brought down by Son in the box. Bryan Mbuemo who became the executor successfully outwitted Guglielmo Vicario.

The home team was able to turn around the lead in the 36th minute. Starting from Rico Henry's stab on the left side, he then gave the ball to Yoane Wissa in the penalty area.

Wissa shot, but the ball hit the foot of Micky van de Ven who outwitted Vicario to make it 2-1 for the hosts.

Son threatened in the 50th minute with a fierce strike that Flekken was able to parry. In the 64th minute, Tottenham threatened Brentford's goal again through Richarlison's shot after receiving Madisson's through pass, but again could not beat Flekken.

No goals were scored until the end of the match, the score was 2-2 standing.
