Hyundai and Kia recall more than 3 million cars due to fire risk
South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are recalling more than 3 million cars because of fire risks. The announcement of a recall of about 3.3 million vehicles in the United States due to the risk of sudden fire.

"Until this recalled vehicle is repaired... the safest place to park it is outside and away from homes and other buildings," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a statement, on Wednesday (27/9/2023).
The Problem Stems From A Problem With The Vehicle's Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
"Fires can occur while vehicles are parked and turned off or while driving," he said.
Hyundai is recalling 1.64 million Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, Accent, Azera, Veloster, Santa Fe, Equus, Veracruz, Tucson, Tucson Fuel Cell, and Santa Fe Sport vehicles from model years 2011 through 2015.
Kia America's recall covers 1.73 million vehicles of Borrego, Cadenza, Forte, Sportage, K900, Optima, Soul Rio, Sorento, and Rondo. The recall covers various model years for each vehicle from 2010 to 2017.

The problem stems from a problem in the vehicle's anti-lock brake system (ABS), "which can cause brake fluid to leak internally and cause an electrical short circuit," NHTSA said.
"Hyundai plans to notify the owner to take his vehicle to the nearest dealership to replace the ABS module fuse," the agency said. "Kia is still looking for a cure."
None of the companies was aware of any "accidents, injuries, or deaths associated with this defect".
Hyundai has recorded 21 vehicle-related fires in the US, as well as "22 thermal incidents", including visible, burning, and melting smoke.
Kia has recorded one fire in the engine compartment, three fires in the unit, and six incidents of component melting.
