In his honor, Google celebrated Dr Chang's 87th birthday today with a Doodle featuring a sketch of the talented heart surgeon with an animated pulse in the background.
Dr. Victor Chang is a Pioneer in Heart Surgery and Transplantation
Dr. Victor Chang is a prominent Chinese-Australian surgeon, born on this day 21 November in Shanghai in 1936.
When she was a child, her mother developed breast cancer, which years later gave rise to her interest in medicine.
Dr. Chang was not only a pioneer in the field of heart surgery and transplantation, but also an individual who left a valuable mark in the history of medicine.

Dr. Chang's life story begins with a deeply personal experience of her mother facing breast cancer. This experience sparked Dr Chang's interest in the medical world. Led him towards an extraordinary vocation as a surgeon.
Dr Chang pursued his studies in medicine and surgery at the University of Sydney, continuing his educational journey with residency training at St. Vincent's Hospital and contributing to hospitals around the world.
His calling brought him back to his homeland, Australia in 1972. At St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, Dr. Chang found his true calling as a cardiothoracic surgeon.
One of his most memorable achievements was the development of the artificial heart valve of St. Vincent. Not only does it have superior medical quality, but its more affordable price makes it globally accessible, helping to save lives around the world.
Dr. Chang's courage reached its peak when, in 1984, he successfully performed a heart transplant on Fiona Coote, Australia's youngest patient who was only 14 years old. Through these efforts, Dr. Chang has not only been a pioneer, but also a bearer of hope for those in need of cardiac surgical intervention.
His outstanding achievements were recognized by many, as evidenced by the Companion of the Order of Australia award he received in 1986 and the Australian of the Century title at the People's Choice Awards in 1999.
However, Dr. Chang's passion does not stop at his success. He passionately shares his knowledge and skills with the world.
The Victor Chang Foundation, which he founded in 1984, provides scholarships and provides a platform for the education of surgeons in Southeast Asia. Guiding them to St. Vincent's Hospital in Sydney to acquire advanced heart surgery skills, including heart transplants. It also provides grants to programs that explore innovations in cardiac surgery.
He died on July 4, 1991, in Mosman, Australia, murdered in an extortion attempt.
In 1994, the Victor Chang Research Institute was established, becoming a symbol of an enduring commitment to finding innovative solutions in the management of cardiovascular diseases. Through these foundations and institutes, Dr. Victor Chang's legacy lives on, transcending the medical realm and saving lives.
