ChatGPT Releases New Features

OpenAI is currently undergoing prolonged drama following the sudden firing of former CEO Sam Altman. But that hasn't stopped OpenAI from creating something new with ChatGPT: ChatGPT releases new features.

OpenAI announced that ChatGPT users can now access the chatbot service with voice commands. Users can tap the headphone icon to start talking to ChatGPT in the mobile app, as well as get an audio response.

OpenAI Releases Audio Command Feature For All Users

The audio command feature for ChatGPT is not new because it was previously available for paid users. But this time OpenAI released that feature for all users.

OpenAI also uploaded a demo of the new feature on Twitter/X. Interestingly, the demo contains jokes about the drama involving Altman and OpenAI's directors in recent days.

In the demo, someone asked ChatGPT how many 16-inch pizzas to order for 778 people. The joke seemed to refer to OpenAI's roughly 700 employees, most of whom threatened to resign unless the board resigned.

Not only that, former OpenAI President Greg Brockman also helped promote the new ChatGPT feature in X. Even though Brockman has resigned as a form of solidarity after Altman was fired.

"ChatGPT Voice is rolling out to all free users. Try it -- completely change the experience of using ChatGPT," Brockman said in a tweet, as quoted from The Verge, Wednesday (11/22/2023).

Last weekend, OpenAI's board fired co-founder and CEO Sam Altman because Altman was inconsistently honest in his communications with the board. OpenAI's board has since appointed Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear as interim CEO, while Altman and Brockman have been invited by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to lead the company's new AI division.

Most OpenAI employees signed an open letter asking the board to step down and threatening to resign to join Microsoft. Meanwhile, Altman has reportedly begun negotiations with OpenAI's board of directors to return to the company he founded.
